Riding high on the success of her latest horror flick, the sizzling hottie, Raai Laxmi talks about films, co-stars, fashion and much more
The pretty and leggy actress Lakshmi Rai – who is now known as Raai Laxmi – is basking in the glory of her latest hit Aranmanai. Directed by Sundar C and starring Laxmi, Hansika, Andrea, Sundar C, Vinay and others, the movie has turned out to be a blockbuster! Laxmi has had a great year so far – she played a funky biker called Christina in Irumbu Kuthirai, a homely wife in Rajadhi Raja and a hot girl who all the men fall for in Arnamanai. Speaking to Bollywoodlife, Laxmi says that she is enjoying her success and though she shuttles between Mumbai and Chennai, she’s always looks forward to entertaining her fans in the south.
On Aranmanai…
When director Sundar C approached me for this role, I was keen to do something different and asked him about the ghost role. But comedy is his forte and in this movie too comedy plays a major role so I went ahead and played the role of Maya. I am glad I trusted him completely – the role has been appreciated by everyone, especially my fans. I am very happy! Sundar only gave us the outline of the story because he wanted to keep us in suspense. We would get to know the story little by little on the sets as we shot each day. By the end of the film, we were like one big family. We became close as we shot for the film in one long schedule. It was a great movie to work on!Her Aranmanai co-stars…
Each and every person who worked in this film deserves praise whether it’s Andrea, Hansika or Kovai Sarala. Everyone shares the credit for the success of the film. I don’t understand why some media talk only about some actors in the film and not others. All of us have worked hard and ensured we have given a good entertaining film.
On the glamour quotient…
Even Sridevi was said to have the oomph factor! It is important for glamour or oomph for a movie to be commercially successful. I don’t want to do boring roles where people say I have acted well and the movie doesn’t do well commercially. I want to do roles which my fans want to see me in and if they enjoy me in glam roles then that’s what I should do. I want to entertain them. I don’t want people to get bored watching me on-screen.
Kollywood career…
My career here has had its share of ups and downs but then which actor hasn’t faced that in their life? I did make some mistakes initially when I came into the Tamil film industry but I have learnt from my mistakes. People should see the hard work and difficulties an actor goes through behind the scenes – it’s just not all glamour and fun. But having said that, I am very happy where I am today!
Upcoming projects…
I have two Tamil films lined up. One is with Raghava Lawrence titled Oru Ticket La Rendu Cinema – the first half is titled “Kizhavan”, the second “Karuppu Thurai”. It will be a highly entertaining film, something very different again for me. I have to prepare for this role over the next two months. We start shooting in November. I will announce the film shortly.
Her svelte and fashionable look…
Now fitness is part of my daily routine and yes, I have lost a lot of weight. I don’t want to look frumpy. In the film world one needs to look attractive and be well-dressed. We have an image and all the pictures and videos that people shoot at every public event you attend remain forever! Luckily, I do have a good fashion sense. It’s important to be conscious about what you wear when you step out of your house and to have a stylist who can put together your look. As far as make-up goes, I hardly even use make-up on screen!
